Public Health Update

On the occasion of first-ever World NTD Day, Public Health Update will develop and launch website and social media campaigns on Neglected Tropical Diseases among medical students, public health students and healthcare providers to raise awareness on NTDs. Our social media platforms will also display messages related to NTDs to raise awareness among our audiences.

In honor of the DRC’s Third Annual National Human African Trypanosomiasis (HAT) Day and First Annual World NTD Day on January 30, the DRC Cabinet of the Ministry, national HAT elimination program, and partners are hosting national and provincial-level political celebrations to recognize progress made to date toward HAT elimination, raise awareness of the disease, and catalyze the necessary actions to achieve sustained elimination.

King George Medical University

King George Medical University will be hosting a state-level symposium on NTDs in Lucknow, which is the largest state in India and has the highest burden of NTDs in India. Two major centers of the state along with the NTD division of the World Health Organisation are major partners of our symposium. There will be extensive discussion regarding different NTDs and extending support for training and research. We are proposing that scrub typhus and related rickettsial diseases be declared as NTDs for the SEARO region by scientific documentation support.

Instituto de Salud Carlos III will host a one day get-together meeting to increase awareness on NTDs in our country and within our research and public health community, organised by different groups working on NTDs at ISCIII.

Alliance Water Solutions

For World NTD Day, Alliance Water Solutions will partner with Nebbi District leadership and RTI International to raise critical awareness about trachoma especially promoting facial cleanliness, use of safe and clean water, construction and use of pit latrines for human waste disposal. The day’s events will include a sensitization meeting of all leaders in the sub county and a local parade led by a community brass band displaying messages on trachoma prevention.
